Four mechanical engineers, graduates from MIT, thought up the idea for Spyce when looking to create a cheaper meal option for students. The team invited Daniel Boulud, a 2018 inductee into the MenuMasters Hall of Fame, to get involved. The famous chef is now the culinary director and an investor for the new concept.

In the kitchen, trained chefs prep the food and add finishing touches at the end, but robots do the bulk of the work: taking orders, assembling ingredients, cooking and washing.
