Union Square Hospitality Group, the New York City multiconcept operator founded by restaurateur Danny Meyer, officially opened the doors of Manhatta, its latest concept, on Tuesday. The new restaurant and bar is inspired by “Mannahatta,” a poem by Walt Whitman.
Manhatta debuts along with USHG’s first-ever event space, Bay Room, on the top floor of 28 Liberty Street, a skyscraper in Lower Manhattan. Together, they offer sweeping views of New York City in all directions.
Despite the premium backdrop and upscale atmosphere of the restaurant, USHG hopes to distinguish it from other sky-high dining destinations and shape it into a familiar local spot through soulful and thoughtful hospitality.
“Manhatta will be a gift to New Yorkers, providing a perspective of our city that many of us have not yet experienced. The backdrop is stunning, but we want it to feel as warm and familiar as a neighborhood restaurant,” said Meyer in a release.
