This week saw restaurants fully closing their doors because of the coronavirus.

We rounded up six big name restaurants across the country that had to close when dining rooms shut down and announced no plans to reopen after the crisis. Some restaurants were struggling before and the closure forced a decision while others were long loved institutions like Gotham Bar in New York City that couldn't survive after 40 years without its in-person clientele.

For restaurants that remain open across the country, they have had to rely heavily on third-party delivery marketplaces and, as restaurant owners have been saying for a long time, the fees are debilitating.

Mayor London Breed of San Francisco decided to introduce a cap on these fees for restaurants temporarily. DoorDash cut commission fees for independent restaurants by 50%.

Grubhub announced a relief plan earlier this week that still didn’t address the fees imposed on restaurants, only consumer fees.
