The flexible metal is darling of restaurant design
It offers both warmth and a bit of bling. Copper has become the metal of choice in restaurant design, showing up in everything from lighting fixtures and bar surfaces to cocktail glasses.
In London, for example, the restaurant Bandol in Chelsea serves up dishes from the south of France in a restaurant that glows with copper. The bar and table tops are copper, as are wall and lighting fixtures, giving the room a golden glow.
Copper also tops the bar at Monkey Bar in Arcadia, Calif. In Fort Worth, Texas, copper and tin pieces evoke a school of fish floating over diners at the coastal cuisine restaurant Waters.
Across the country, Moscow mule mugs have morphed into copper pineapples or garden gnomes by Absolut Elyx. This summer, for example, Absolut Elyx’s copper gnomes have become the Instagrammed symbol of EMP Summer House in the Hamptons, a temporary restaurant operated by the team of Eleven Madison Park while the New York mothership restaurant is renovated.
