According to the Center for Diseases Control and Prevention, up to 20 percent of the American population gets the flu every year. Many of those people are your customers. They get sick, and so does your bottom line. Well, how about a promotion that features a menu with flu-fighting foods?

“This is a great time to make an effort to incorporate these foods into your daily diets,” says Chef John Kuropatwa, executive chef of Spigola Ristorante in Hamilton Township, NJ. “The flu is in the news daily, and we can use all the help we can muster to try to avoid it.”

So, look to the American Dietetic Association for flu-fighting foods that you can menu and promote to customers who nervously hope they don’t become a statistics. Here’s a short list of just what the doctor ordered: yogurt, mushrooms, garlic, red bell peppers, broccoli, tea, turmeric, beef, sweet potatoes and Brazil nuts.
