Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group is developing a new “accessible and welcoming” restaurant concept for The Shed, an arts center adjacent to the massive Hudson Yards complex in New York City.

Scheduled to open this spring, The Shed will host performing and visual arts within a building that expands and contracts in multiple configurations, with a rolling outer shell that can be deployed over an adjoining plaza.

Union Square Hospitality Group, or USHG, will provide food and beverage throughout the building, and the group’s catering arm, Union Square Events, will be the exclusive caterer for The Shed, including operations for an event space on the top floor that will overlook Hudson Yards, the company said.

Menu details were not available, but company officials said it would be designed to be “accessible and welcoming to a wide breadth of visitors, including communities who have historically felt unwelcome in traditional arts institutions.”

USHG joins a star-studded lineup of chefs and restaurant operators bringing new concepts to Hudson Yards, including Thomas KellerDavid Chang and José Andrés. The complex is scheduled to begin opening in March. The Shed is scheduled to open in April.

Meyer’s group is also reportedly developing a separate concept in Manhattan West, across the street from Hudson Yards, with Brookfield Properties. The as-yet-unnamed restaurant will be the anchor for a six-building mixed-use project scheduled to open in 2020, according to Eater New York.

The 200,000-square-foot building is designed by Diller Scofidio Renfro in collaboration with The Rockwell Group, which will design the restaurant and event space.
