Curry House Japanese Curry and Spaghetti has shuttered, closing all 9 units in Southern California
Employees learned of closure when arriving for work Monday
The brand is making its mark on the Big Apple with more openings planned soon
PLNT Burger — pronounced plant — is a 12-unit chain from chef Spike Mendelsohn that’s mostly in Whole Foods Markets but has two stand-alone stores in New York City. The burger, fries and shakes spot was founded by Mendelsohn and Honest Tea founder Seth Goldman after the pair bonded over Beyond Meat at a conference.
Deemed essential during the pandemic, the brand was allowed to grow while others were shutting down, which eventually enabled the brand to expand to its first brick-and-mortar store in New York City. Last month, the brand opened its first two-story location in the NoMad neighborhood of Manhattan.
Current plans for expansion include two more New York City units as well as one in Boston, but that’s just the beginning.
“It’s on fire, people are really responding well,” said Mendelsohn.
