Shakshuka is a bold flavored dish of eggs poached in an often spicy tomato sauce, frequently topped with herbs, that is popular in Israel and parts of North Africa. Though often presented as a breakfast dish in the United States, Shakshuka is popular at any time of day in its countries of origin.

Common ingredients in the sauce, besides, tomato, are red pepper, cumin, paprika and cayenne, but its wide variety of potential spices opens it up for experimentation by chefs.

Shakshuka is currently found in 1.2% of U.S. menus with a 119% increase over the past four years. A decent number of consumers, around 15%, are aware of the dish but only around 7% have tried it. There is an equal awareness among all sets of consumers.
