Category: Rum, Pisco and Cachaça
Restaurant: Mutiny Pirate Bar & Island Grille, Glen Burnie, Md.
Creator: Nate Hynson
Inspiration: “I wanted to add some complexity to a Pisco Sour without going overboard, and bring several cultural influences together in one harmonious beverage.”
Key Ingredients: Rhum J.M. V.S.O.P., lemon grass-turbinado-white balsamic shrub, The Bitter Truth Creole Bitters and egg white
Price: $15
What the Judges Said: Named for the far-flung origins of its ingredients — rum from Martinique (aged in recharred bourbon barrels), Italian vinegar, Southeast Asian aromatics and bitters that evoke the Louisiana bayou, not to mention Peruvian inspiration — this drink could have been the gastronomic equivalent of the Tower of Babel. Instead it has the refreshing appeal of a Pisco Sour, but with the added, sultry warmth that comes from a barrel-aged spirit.
Next: Spiced Pear and Raspberry Mojito
